It takes all sorts of people to run a successful Squadron.  At 2120 Sqn we have a wide range of individuals from a variety of backgrounds on the staff team, each with a wealth of experience and fountains of knowledge to share.

Officer Commanding

Flight Lieutenant Caffrey joined 2120 Squadron in April 2012 as a Civilian Instructor. Since then, he has completed the Officer Aircrew Selection Centre and commissioned into the RAF Reserve training branch. He assumed command of 2120 Squadron in September 2014.

Away from the Air Cadet Organisation, Flt Lt Caffrey is the Safety Assurance Officer at AirTanker, the defence company providing the Royal Air Force with the A330-MRTT Voyager aircraft.

Adjutant / Deputy OC

Flying Officer Young joined 2120 Sqn in May 2016, having previously served 16 years in the regular RAF as a pilot, flying both fast-jet and multi-engine types during his career.  He remains an enthusiastic pilot of light aircraft, particularly enjoying formation flying and aerobatics, but also the occasional cross-country and overseas trip, having recently flown in France, Belgium and Germany.  Flying Officer Young was commissioned in the RAFVR(T) in November 2016.

Away from the Squadron, Flying Officer Young works as a supply chain consultant for Unipart in Oxford – nothing to do with flying at all!

Mr Justin Meadows
Civilian Instructor / Deputy Training Officer

CI Meadows joined the Squadron in January 2013 as a Civilian Instructor. During his time on the Squadron CI Meadows has taught First Class cadets and is currently studying materials so that he can teach a Senior Cadet / Master Cadet level subject. For the first two years of his ATC career CI Meadows has been the Squadron Training Officer, he is currently the Deputy Training Officer.

CI Meadows has worked in finance for many years. He has worked with businesses as well as local government. Currently, employed as a manager with a national charity.

dsc_0023Flight Lieutenant Peter Armitage BSc (Hons) RAF
Service Instructor

Flt Lt Peter Armitage rejoined the RAF as a Flight Operations Officer in January 2017, having spent three years as a civilian working for Police Scotland. He previously held a commission in the RAF serving tours in Search and Rescue, London, Qatar and Cyprus.

During his time pre/between regular RAF service Flt Lt Armitage has previously held commissions within the Air Cadet Organisation serving on Cardiff and Elgin sqns.

Away from the RAF Flt Lt Armitage enjoys Mountain Walking, Cycling and assorted other sports.


Senior Aircraftman James Fraser RAF
Training Officer / Service Instructor

706052e0fa35e2c76afb4c99c470eba6SAC Fraser joined the RAF as a Flight Operations Assistant in October 2013. Currently stationed at RAF Brize Norton, he is part of the Operations section for Voyager, one of the RAF’s newest air transport and air-to-air refuelling aircraft. As part of his 3 year tour with Voyager, SAC Fraser has enjoyed detachments to the Falkland Isles and Cyprus.

SAC Fraser initially joined the Air Training Corps as a cadet at 122 (5th Glasgow) Sqn in 2010, rising through the ranks to become a Cadet Flight Sergeant, prior to his departure to join the RAF. Wishing to give something back to the organization that gave him so much, SAC Fraser joined 2120 Sqn in May 2016. Later going on to be appointed as Training Officer in August 2016.

Away from service life, SAC Fraser enjoys running, reading and cooking.
